With the enthusiastic support of all parties, the ceremony united members of the Seahorse Rangers, and through the “Local Food Festival”, promoted local agriculture, low-carbon diet and sustainable living. This milestone event represents an important step in empowering students to take the lead in conservation.
Joining Hands for Conservation: From Campus to Community
At the 3rd Seahorse Rangers Pledging Ceremony, we were honored to have Miss Wong Shuk Han, Diane, JP, The Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology of HKSAR, as our officiating guest, witnessing principals, teachers, and students formally pledge their commitment to becoming members of the Seahorse Rangers. This year, the Ocean Park Conservation Alliance (Alliance) adopted the theme “Eat Local”, guiding members to experience the journey from “farm to table”. Additionally, a new initiative, “Seahorse Rangers Day”, was also launched this year, bringing conservation messages into schools through campus activities, aiming to nurture students’ passion for conservation through diverse experiential learning opportunities.
Currently, more than 700 schools across Hong Kong have joined the Alliance, with over 14,000 Seahorse Rangers. This growing network is effectively spreading conservation values more widely and profoundly. Through collective efforts, schools and communities are collaborating to promote environmental protection, nurture students’ appreciation for nature, and encourage the practice of low-carbon living, ensuring that conservation ideals continue to flourish.
We are grateful for the ongoing support from the education sector, which has enabled the Seahorse Rangers to grow steadily over the past three years, showcasing the strong unity of the Alliance.
From Classroom to Farms: Nurturing Young Conservation Leaders
In this school year, the Alliance launched a new flagship activity: “Farming at School”, enabling students to learn about local agriculture and understand how farming practices can support low-carbon lifestyle. This programme encourages schools to promote local food consumption, integrating the concept of “farm to table” into campus life. Starting from November 2025, students from 20 schools became “farmer trainees”, visiting 14 farms for multiple hands-on sessions. They participated in activities such as tilling soil, planting crops, harvesting produce, and creating by-products. On the event day, they collaborated with local farmers to promote and sell agricultural products, showcasing their resilience and creativity.
Despite the chilly winds and light rain, students’ enthusiasm remained undiminished, as they eagerly showcased their farming achievements to citizens and visitors, sharing the concept of low-carbon lifestyle, and encouraged support for local agriculture. Many visitors gained a deeper understanding of local farming through these interactions and actively purchased the products cultivated by the students, supporting the development of local farming. These efforts not only brought the “farm to table” culture into schools but also extended it into the wider community, serving as a successful example for sustainable living.
Educational Leaders’ Exchange: Embracing the “Eat Local” Concept
To strengthen connections with principals from Alliance schools and promote the “Eat Local” concept, the Alliance hosted a special “Eat Local” luncheon on the event day, bringing together around 100 principals. This served as a platform for conservation and educational exchange, allowing education leaders to gain deeper insights into Hong Kong’s local agriculture and explore ways to integrate the spirit of “Eat Local” into campus.
The luncheon featured fresh, locally sourced ingredients, allowing principals to savor the diversity and richness of Hong Kong’s agriculture while experiencing the benefits of “eat closer, eat fresher, eat locally fresh”. As they enjoyed the meal, participants shared experiences and creative ideas, discussing ways to extend the “Eat Local” concept into communities and families. The luncheon not only deepened the education sector’s understanding of local agriculture but also opened new possibilities for combining agriculture, conservation, and education.

The success of the Seahorse Rangers Pledging Ceremony cum Local Food Festival was made possible by everyone’s active participation. Looking ahead, we hope that Seahorse Rangers will continue to promote conservation messages throughout this school year, inspiring more people to engage in green actions. We will also continue to launch more inspiring conservation activities and warmly invite everyone to take part, so that conservation education continues to thrive across campuses and communities.
