On December 7, 2024, Ocean Park Hong Kong held a giant panda debut ceremony at Applause Pavilion within the park. The event featured the “Giant Panda Greeting Ceremony,” a school community tea gathering, and a visit to the “Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures” to meet the new giant pandas, “An An” and “Ke Ke.” The event was honoured by the presence of Chief Executive of Hong Kong - John Lee Ka-chiu, his wife Mrs. Janet Lee Lam Lai-sim, honourable guests and over 70 school principals.
The event began with the “Giant Panda Greeting Ceremony,” during which Chief Executive John Lee announced the names of the pandas and delivered a speech about his visions for conservation in Hong Kong. This was followed by an award ceremony for the naming and drawing competitions. Mrs. Janet Lee Lam Lai-sim also presented six panda-themed ceramic plates, which she personally crafted, to Ocean Park as a gesture of congratulations on the arrival of the two pandas.
Following the greeting ceremony, school principals and Ocean Park’s Education Department staff gathered for a “School Community Tea Gathering,” where they exchanged ideas and shared conservation initiatives and activities taking place in their schools. The discussion aimed to enhance conservation efforts in Hong Kong through educational programs.
Finally, all guests and school principals visited the “Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures” to meet the new giant pandas, “An An” and “Ke Ke,” and took photos with them.
